Supervision and safeguarding

This page sets out how our sessions are supervised and what we ask of a host school. If anything here falls short of your school’s requirements, tell us and we will meet them.

Who is in the room

  • Sessions are delivered by the two founders named on the About page. We are secondary school students, not qualified teachers.
  • A member of the host school’s staff is in the room for the whole session. If that person is not there, we do not start.
  • We are never alone with a student, and we do not supervise students. If a student needs to leave the room, school staff handle it.
  • We are not responsible for discipline, first aid, or any duty of care. Those remain with the school throughout.

The responsible adult

[PLACEHOLDER — name and role of the adult accountable for GreenCollege: a teacher at your own school, a parent, or a named staff member at an institution that hosts you. Say plainly what they do — whether they review materials, whether they are contactable during sessions, and what they are and are not responsible for.]

A host school may contact them directly, without going through us: [PLACEHOLDER — that adult's email address].

[PLACEHOLDER — If GreenCollege operates under a school, charity or other institution, name it here and describe the relationship in one sentence. If it does not, delete this paragraph rather than implying a connection you do not have.]

What we ask of the host school

  • Nominate one staff member as our single point of contact.
  • Have that person, or another member of staff, present for the whole of every session.
  • Tell us in advance of any adjustment a student needs in order to take part. We do not need to know why, and we do not want medical or personal information about students.
  • Handle all communication with students and parents. We do not contact either.
  • Send us your safeguarding policy and anything else you require — a visitor agreement, a code of conduct, an induction. We will follow them, and we will sign what you ask us to sign.

Contact with students

  • We do not collect students’ phone numbers, email addresses or social media accounts, and we decline them if they are offered.
  • We do not message students, follow them, or accept follow requests.
  • Everything goes through your staff contact, including anything a student asks us to pass on.
  • We do not offer paid tutoring or mentoring to students we meet through a school. Follow-up questions reach us through your staff contact, and our answers go back the same way.

Photography and student work

  • The default is no photography. We do not photograph or film students, and we do not ask to.
  • If the school wants photographs, the school takes them under its own consent arrangements. We do not approach parents for consent ourselves.
  • We use a photograph only if the school gives it to us with written permission, and we never name a student.
  • Student work stays with the students and the school. We do not keep it, publish it, or show it elsewhere.
  • If we ever want to use an anonymised example of student work, we ask the school in writing first. Any student may decline, and does not have to give a reason.

What we record

  • The name and work email of the school staff contact, the dates of sessions, and the topics covered.
  • Nothing about individual students. No names, no marks, no notes.
  • [PLACEHOLDER — where these records are stored and how long they are kept, e.g. "a shared drive folder, deleted at the end of each school year".]

Raising a concern

If anything about a session concerns you, write to admin@greencollege.org. We will reply, and we will tell the responsible adult named above.

If the concern is about a student’s safety or wellbeing, use your school’s own safeguarding procedure first. That takes precedence over anything on this page, and nothing here should delay it.
